Bargaining for Our Lives & other works
from author/columnist Jennifer Heyns

Welcome

This site is all about me. Hard to sound humble when you say things like that, but truly I needed a site where I could share all about me with all of you! Here you'll find things like my books in download version, links to my other published work, links to other places you can find me on the Internet and a blog about life and stuff.

I considered giving this site the name of the book I am currently trying to publish, Bargaining for Our Lives, but then decided I wanted it to be so much more than that. Not to mention, it's a lot easier to just remember my name as the site address (that's if you can spell Heyns - looks simple, but you'd be surprised.)

Anyway, I'm all over the Internet in one form or another and my long term goal is to have more than just one book available to you in the near future.

Bargaining for Our Lives is my first book and is a very important one for the time in America that we are all currently living in. It's a guide to navigating the world of healthcare which people without health insurance will benefit from the most, but it's relevant to those with insurance as well. In it you'll find tons of stories about my family and how we've lived for the past 8 years without health insurance as well as the lessons we learned (mostly the hard way) which have helped us to do it successfully.

Some of the things everyone should know, which are covered in the book, are topics like how to find the right doctor, how to break up with your not-so-right doctor, the importance of a qualified, unbiased second opinion, how to keep proper healthcare records at home, how to handle hospital visits and how to negotiate cost with healthcare professionals.

While I'd love to say that the book is done, I have one more very important step to make with it before I can upload it onto my site and start sharing it with you. I'm currently interviewing healthcare and other professionals to gain valuable input into the topics I delved into. My stories, lessons and information are interesting and reliable, but I wanted the book to have even more credibility by providing some great words of wisdom straight from the horses’ mouths.

My goal is to have the book loaded onto the site in eBook form before we wave goodbye to 2009 and usher in a new year. The cost of the book will be $10, but I promise it will be worth the money and the wait.

In the meantime, check out all of the other fabulous things I’ve got going around the world wide web - none of them will cost you a dime!

Thanks for coming, tell all your friends (please) and I'll see you around!

Jennifer
